Beyond a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 7,000 mAh battery and a strong camera system, the Motorola Signature 27 has several features that set it apart: a Tandem OLED display, GrapheneOS support, an action sensor, new cooling and Bang & Olufsen audio. Here is what each one does.

What is special about the Tandem OLED display?

The Signature 27 has a 6.8-inch 1.5K Extreme AMOLED Duo LTPO display at 120Hz. It is one of the few phones with a Tandem OLED panel, which stacks two OLED layers instead of one. Motorola says that allows higher brightness, better power efficiency and more vibrant colour, with up to 12,000 nits of peak brightness, among the highest claimed on a phone. That is Motorola's figure, and we have not tested the screen.

Why does GrapheneOS support matter?

It is Motorola's first device with GrapheneOS support. GrapheneOS is an open-source operating system based on the Android Open Source Project that limits how apps and websites can track and extract private data. Until now it ran only on Google Pixel phones. Motorola also says the Signature 27 has its first performant implementation of Arm Memory Tagging Extension, a hardware feature that helps protect system integrity and privacy.

What does the action sensor do?

A dedicated EVS action sensor sits in the camera setup to capture fast-moving subjects more clearly. It works with an Action Shot feature, which Motorola says freezes motion while maximising available light.

How does ArcticMesh cooling work?

ArcticMesh uses a diamond-infused thermal gel, liquid metal, a copper mesh and a redesigned 3D vapour chamber, which is said to be 40% larger than the previous generation's. It targets heat during AI use, gaming and video.

What are the AI and audio features?

  • Gemini and Motorola Qira: Gemini handles multi-step tasks such as booking rides and preparing grocery orders; Rambler turns speech into polished text; Create My Widget builds home-screen widgets; Sign-to-Text converts American Sign Language into written English in real time. Gemini Omni creates and edits video from prompts and Lyria generates soundtracks. Qira links supported Motorola and Lenovo devices.
  • Audio by Bang & Olufsen: the Signature 27 is the first phone with it, part of a multi-year partnership, with Sound Modes and a new speaker architecture.

How does it compare with the original Motorola Signature?

The Motorola Signature has a 5,200 mAh battery and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, against 7,000 mAh and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 on the new model. Our Signature 27 launch story covers the specs and prices, and the phone's page is here.

These features are interesting, but we would not buy on them alone. We have not tested the phone, so compare it with other flagships and wait for reviews, especially on battery life, cooling and the India price. See more from Motorola in our database.
